Artistically and financially, the Tarragon is the most reliable theatre in Toronto and, probably, Canada. Here you're likely to see Canadian theatre at its best, as well as some fine productions by, say, David Hare, David Mamet or Tony Kushner. English translations of major works from Quebec are a house speciality. The programming emphasis remains on well-established Canadian playwrights. Tarragon has two auditoriums: the main theatre, a 205-seater for works of wider appeal, and the Extra Space, one of the best small venues in town, where experimental or small-scale plays are staged.
