Hotels

The only hotel in the citadel is the Hotel San Francesco (via Ambrogio Machin 2, 079 980 330, www.sanfrancescohotel.com, €75-€92), a recently refurbished 16th-century seminary, where the ensuite rooms overlook the cloister. The three-star Angedras Hotel (via Frank 2, 079 973 5034, www.angedras.it, €74-€110) is a classy, modern option. On a rocky outcrop, with a commanding view of the bay, is the four-star Hotel Villa Las Tronas (lungomare Valencia 1, 079 981 818, www.hvlt.com, €160-€350), built by a Piedmontese count in the 1880s; splendid on the outside, inside the rooms are surprisingly simple. La Margherita (via Sassari 70, 079 979 006, €75-€134) is a good mid-ranger on the edge of the old town. If sea views and a private beach are more important to you than a central location, the recently renovated, four-star Hotel Punta Negra is well worth the journey (Punta Negra, 079 930 222, www.hotelpuntanegra.it, €136-€340, closed Nov-Feb).
