For the best in Danish design – albeit found at a price – there’s the Arne Jacobsen-designed Radisson SAS Royal (Hammerichsgade 1, 33 42 60 00, www.radissonsas.com, 1,345kr-1,995kr) or Hotel Skt Petri (Krystalgade 22, 33 45 91 00, www.sktpetri.dk, 2,295kr-7,995kr) in the Latin Quarter. Top of the range is Hotel d’Angleterre (Kongens Nytorv 34, 33 12 00 95, www.remmen.dk, 2,470kr-3,470kr).

You’ll not be surprised, surely, to learn that budget alternatives are few and far between in this stylish city. However, a branch of the chain Cab Inn has arrived (Mitchellsgade 14, 33 46 16 16, www.cabinn.dk, 645kr), with its boxy but practical rooms. Failing that, Hotel Selandia (Helgolandsgade 12, 33 31 46 10, 540kr-740kr) is another decent affordable choice for the budget traveller. Another alternative is a room in a private home, which the tourist office can help you find.
