Hotels

If you want to splurge, check in to one of Delhi's many luxury hotels where you'll be treated like royalty. Bill Clinton's favourite is The Maurya Sheraton (Sardar Patel Marg, +911126112233), which has two of Delhi's best restaurants, The Bukhara and Dum Pukht, as well as the wildly popular pub Dublin, the only place in town where you can get Irish beer and whisky. Cheaper, but also five-star, is the elegant Imperial (Janpath, +911123341234) with an atmosphere of period charm that's hard to rival. Less ruinous to the pocket is the Hans Plaza right in the heart of Connaught Place, the city's centre (15 Barakhamba Road, +911123316868), and even more reasonably priced are the many guesthouses. A good one is the centrally located Maharani (3 Sunder Nagar, +911124359521/2). During the season (Oct-Apr), hotel rooms are in short supply so book early.
