It's almost impossible to get a bad meal in Delhi unless one is perverse enough to order from the 'conti' section of a roadside eatery's menu; 'conti' being an abbreviation for 'continental' which means European. The inevitable result is soggy cutlets and altogether vile chips. With this caveat in mind, Delhi is a foodie's paradise. A great place to sample food from all the regions of India is Dilli Haat which translates into Delhi's open-air market (opp INA Market, Aurobindo Marg, no phone) a charming pedestrian plaza where specials include Goan prawn curry, Bengali fish curry, Maharashtrian 'thepla', momos (a kind of steamed dim-sum) from the north east, mutton biryanai from Hyderabad, idlis and dosas from Tamil Nadu and a huge variety of 'chaat', the tangy street food beloved of Indians everywhere. For tipplers, pubs and bars abound in every area of the city but one that's definitely worth a visit is The Deck at the rooftop of the Sahara Mall (Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, across the Haryana State border, +91124 5048031) in the swanky suburb of Gurgaon.
