Summer in cities in around the world

Buenos Aires
Argentina’s exuberant capital and South America’s cultural
centre is glamorous, vibrant and irresistible. With a handful of
ambitious hotel developments, a massive tango-dancing revival and even
an explosion of new and local fashion talent, Buenos Aires is no longer
just about beaches and beautiful bottoms.
Don’t miss
World Tango Championships
Tango
is once again huge in this city. Pre-qualifying stages, strict rules
and an eagle-eyed jury are just a few of the hurdles awaiting those
couples attempting to become the World Tango Champions. The prize money
is small – AR$5,000 (£900) for the best Stage Tango couple and the same
for the best Salón Tango couple – but the prestige is priceless.

Where to eat
Casa Cruz
The
most daring and imaginative restaurant venture ever to hit the city.
Enter through 16-foot brass doors, loiter by the sleek oval bar in the
lobby, lounge on the oversized Chesterfield sofa and sip on a sublime
martini. Then glide through to the spotlit redwood-panelled dining
area, a large space dominated by a floor-to-ceiling wine rack
showcasing most of Argentina’s top wineries. The food has been dubbed
‘modern urban Argentinian’ cuisine by the head chef, but for those not
hungry, or arriving late, the bar is a lively nexus of local celebs and
tourists.
Casa Cruz, Uriarte 1658 (0054 4833 1112/www.casa-cruz.com). Open Mon-Sat 8.30pm-late. Main course: AR$26-AR$45 (£4.50-£6.15).
After hours
Crobar
This
is the one BA clubbers have been waiting for. After a long delay, North
American megaclub chain Crobar, whose slogan exhorts clubbers to
‘reclaim your nightlife’, opened its fourth branch here in March 2006
(the others are in New York, Chicago and Miami) with a set by DJ
extraordinaire Tiesto. This is a huge space, with multiple VIP areas,
chillout zones and a retractable roof. Don’t miss it.
Crobar,
Paseo de la Infanta, Avenida del Libertador 3883, y Infanta Isabel,
Palermo (0054 4778 1500/ www.crobar.com). Open Thur-Sat 9.30pm-late.
Sleep
Home Hotel
Aptly
named, Home delivers an unforgettable experience. Opened last year,
this 17-room boutique hotel has become an instant classic, offering
outstanding service and impressive rooms. The hotel has its own
distinctive look, with vintage French wallpaper, handmade soaps and
staff uniforms designed by Burberry. But the real showstopper is the
gorgeous secluded patio and garden, where guests and visitors can dip
their feet in the infinity pool while sipping drinks mixed by cocktail
king Norman Barone. Add on the Ayurvedic spa, Friday night DJ events,
and you’ll understand why so many are saying there’s no place like Home.
Home
Hotel Buenos Aires, Honduras 5860, between Carranza and Ravigniani,
Palermo Viejo (0054 4778 1008/ www.homebuenosaires.com). Doubles AR$447
(£79) per night.
