Where to get kitted out
Blacks
Upmarket
supplier of camping and mountaineering equipment. Head for one of its
bigger branches if you want a wider cross-section. Its latest range of
tents – with built-in LED lights – is definitely worth a gander.

Field and Trek
A small but highly reputable chain with three stores in central London. It has an impressive website too.

WildDay.com
We
used this online store last year on a whim. We placed three separate
orders and all arrived within two days. The site is vast, easy to
navigate and appears to stock more than most.

Decathlon
Decathlon
specialises in mountain biking, orienteering, fitness and watersports
goods. But it also sells tents, including pop-up ones. It has two
stores in London: at Lakeside, Thurrock, and in Surrey Quays.
