May sees the geek’s version of a carnival, the International Science Festival (www.vetenskapsfestival.se). August’s Göteborgskalaset (‘Gothenburg Party’) is the biggest city festival in Sweden, with more than 600 concerts as well as other cultural events (www.goteborgskalas.com). Later in May, jazz takes over for three days in central Gothenburg (www.gothenburgjazz festival.com). If you prefer blues, there’s the Göteborg Blues Party (gbgblues.se/gbp) in Slottsparken zoo at the end of June. Kulturnatta (‘One Night of Culture’, www.kulturnatta.goteborg.se) lights up the city with theatre, performance, poetry readings and other events on dark October nights.
