The city’s biggest party in the warmer months is the five-day Hafengeburtstag, which marks the launch of tax-free harbour trading in 1189. Festivities begin on 5 May. Three times a year – with the biggest one in late November – the huge funfair of the Hamburger Dom is erected at the city’s Sternschanzen park just north of St Pauli.
