Lagos offers plenty for the curious visitor if they're willing to explore out of town. Roads in and out of the city are generally good, and bush taxi or minibus fares are extremely cheap. Ninety minutes north, the sprawling city of Ibadan boasts the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and 300 hectares of forest trails and exotic birdlife. West of the city, 45km away, Badagry is the waterfront departure point for millions of slaves, now home to the superb Heritage Museum.
