Restaurants & bars

Victoria Island and Ikoyi not only offer the widest choice of dining in Nigeria, but in West Africa as a whole. Brazilian, Korean, Mexican, many world cuisines can be found here, at prices which reflect their exotic kudos. Restaurants tend to be either prestige venues for pose value or serious eateries for discerning diners. Among the latter are Waka (Plot 1321, Karimu Kotun Street, Victoria Island, 01 879 3289), with pan-African food and ethnic decor, and Yellow Chilli (27 Oju Olubun Close, Victoria Island, 01 723 2666), with its terrace and Nigerian standards of spicy soups, meat and fish dishes. Terra Kulture (Plot 137, Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, 01 270 0599) is where good food and culture come together, comestibles including jollof rice and fried chicken, a mixed grill and dishes of cow tail, goat meat or liver. For high-standard Asian, go no further than Reeds (190 Awolowo Road, SW Ikoyi, 01 763 7475), a destination for quality Thai curries.

Equally glitzy are the cafés in the area, most notably the slick Fashion Café (39 Ademola Street, SW Ikoyi, 01 762 2873) and the classy Swé Bar (2nd floor, City Mall, Onikan, 01 879 7867). Both are lively day and night.
