For pub crawling, try Leipzig’s Drallewatsch (from an old Saxon word meaning ‘to have a good time’) pub district, which covers Grosse and Kleine Fleischergasse, Burfussgässchen and Klostergasse, before reaching Thomaskirchhof – all located in the so-called ‘ring’ and encompassing more than 30 bars. Every year in May, Leipzig boasts Europe’s biggest pub festival, Honky-Tonk.
Leipzig’s university crowds know how to party and their venue of choice is Tanzpalast (Ecke Bosestrasse 1, 960 0596); this mega-club has three discos and seven bars, plus bands playing on Wednesdays and Fridays. Distillery (Kurt-Eisner-Strasse 108A, 3559 7400, www.distillery.de) is widely considered to be Leipzig’s best club, while Blaue Trude (Katharinenstrasse 17, 212 6679, www.blaue-trude.de) is a central gay bar-club open daily.
