The Wittelsbachs’ huge summer villa and gardens, Schloss Nymphenburg (179080, www.schloesser.bayern.de), is one of Europe’s finest royal palaces. It includes several small museums, a collection of royal carriages, the unusual Gallery of Beauties, royal pavilions, stables and a vast park. Tram 17 makes the five-mile journey north-west of the city centre to near the Olympia Park.
