At the same time as hosting key games for the 2006 World Cup tournament (www.fifaworldcup.com), including the opening match on 9 June, Munich stages the annual outdoor Tollwood festival (www.tollwood.de) of crafts, food and music, mainly at the Olympia Park, from 14 June. The biggest event of the year is the Oktoberfest (www.oktoberfest.de), a massive 16-day beer-in from late September at the Theresienwiese meadow. Almost as profitable is the Christmas market, Christkindlmarkt, on Marienplatz from late November.
