Hôtel Pommeraye (2 rue Boileau, 02 40 48 78 79, www.hotel-pommeraye.com, €53-€109), occupying three old houses off the rue Crébillon, is a surprisingly cheap place to stay given its stylish decor, original art, modern bathrooms and charming service. The slick, minimalist Hôtel La Pérouse (3 allée Duquesne, cours des 50 Otages, 02 40 89 75 00, www.hotel-laperouse.fr, €89-€142) has trendy slit windows and designer furniture. Hotel de France (24 rue Crebillon, 02 40 73 57 91, www.hotelfrancenantes.com, €87-€108) is well located by the opera house and shopping district, and is a historical monument. Good bathrooms and a popular restaurant make it a good bet. L'Abbaye de Villeneuve (Les Sorinieres, 02 40 04 40 25, www.abbayedevilleneuve.com, €125-€165) is a four-star hotel around 15 minutes to the south of Nantes’ centre, which has a good restaurant in the old cloisters.
