Private accommodation can be arranged through the tourist office. The four-star Hotel Osijek (Samacka 4, 031 230 333, www.hotelosijek.hr, €130) is the most luxurious hotel in the region. With a spa and beauty centre, a splendid restaurant and stylish cafés, it does justice to its riverside location, with great views of the old town and across the river Drava. The Hotel Central (trg Ante Starcevica 6 (031 283 399, www.hotel-central-os.hr, €70) is a comfortable mid-price option on the main square.

The Waldinger (Zupanijska 8, 031 250 450, www.waldinger.hr, €130) is the city's other four-star hotel, named after the local 19th-century painter, and seeks to recreate the lost world of the Habsburg era.
