Restaurants & bars

Restaurants abound at Aker Brygge, a former shipyard, now a popular summer promenade and leisure complex with harbour views and steep prices. Lofoten (Stranden 75, 22 83 08 08, www.lofoten-fiskerestaurant.no) serves a huge selection of seafood, or you can try the more casual Albertine Café or alfresco Lekteren (both Stranden 3, 22 83 00 60, Lekteren closed winter) for mussels and shrimp. Nearby, Bagatelle (Bygdøy Allé 3, 22 12 14 40, www.bagatelle.no) is the only Norwegian restaurant with two Michelin stars. The 100-year-old Theatrecaféen at the Hotel Continental (see below) is an elegant classic. The Grünerløkka area north of the Central Station has become fashionable and has some fine restaurants – try stylish Sudost (Trondheimsveien 5, 23 35 30 70) or bohemian Sult (Thorvald Meyersgata 26, 22 87 04 67, www.sult.no).
