Hotels

Palma’s old quarter is full of palaces and mansions sensitively converted into boutique hotels. The slickest is the Swedish-owned Puro Hotel (C/Montenegro 12, 971 425 450, www.purohotel.com, €210-€255), a New Age haven of floating flowerheads and minimalist chic. More traditional luxury is to be had at the delightful, family-run Dalt Murada (C/Almudaina 6A, 971 425 300, www.daltmurada.com, €140-€196). The minimalist converted monastery, Convent de la Missió (C/Missió 7A, 971 227 347, www.conventdelamissio.com, €160-€200), houses the acclaimed El Refectori restaurant (closed Sun).

The Hotel Born (C/Sant Jaume 3, 971 712 942, www.hotelborn.com, €93) offers a more affordable palace experience, and decent budget options include the English-owned Hostal Brondo (C/Ca’n Brondo 1, 971 719 043, www.hostalbrondo.net, €45-€60).

For a bed overlooking the sea in smart art deco surroundings, visit the gorgeous Hotel Portixol (C/Sirena 27, 971 271 800, www.portixol.com, €195-€240).
