Still holding on to quickly fading glory, this art-nouveau masterpiece is a reminder of cinema-going’s glory days. The elevated lobby bar has large windows that overlook the 1920s-era shopping arcade, and somebody still occasionally tickles the ivories on the piano. The coat-check still functions, and you can access the balcony. There is even a real curtain in front of the screen. Recently, the cinema’s programme has been moving away from standard Hollywood fare and towards more European films.
