These 10th-century hilltop castle ruins, which predate Prague Castle by a century, were consolidated as the stronghold of King Vratislav II (1061-92) and feature a cemetery that holds a dozen of the greats of Czech culture (Karel Čapek for a start) and the neo-Gothic Sts Peter and Paul, whose spires dominate this side of the river’s skyline. The small 11th-century Romanesque Rotunda of St Martin is one of the oldest surviving structures in Prague.
