In the 12th and 13th centuries this was the Prague headquarters of the Inquisition; the Jesuits moved in during the 16th century, creating the Church of St Saviour (Kostel sv. Salvátora), to reawaken Catholicism in the Protestant populace. At the centre is the Astronomical Tower, where Johannes Kepler once stargazed.
