Il Convivio Troiani

Vicolo dei Soldati 31

In an elegant, minimalist setting, the three Troiani brothers serve ultra-gourmet creations such as a risotto con funghi porcini e quaglia scaloppata (porcini mushrooms and quail scallops) or sole fillets stuffed with artichokes, served in a shallot, lemon and clam sauce. The desserts are spectacular.

Well, it's a kind of chat now, but I would still like to comment on that. We visited the restaurant on Saturday night in the end of July,2007 and it was full. I visit Italy quite often, (as I do London) and most of Italiens, who do not live in Rome though know this restaurant very well and consider it as an outstanding one. You mentioned all people that disliked the restaurant for some reasons and won't visit it again were all British, so what else can be said, you definately know the tastes of your nation better. It is a gastronomic restaurant with minimum decor, for people to enjoy the food. And may I once again pay your attention, that with SUCH expensive prices EVERYWHERE in Britain (esp in London) you definately have no right to say that 35 EUR is too much for a main course in the restaurant, considered one of the best restaurants in Rome. Maybe you thought you were going to a pizzeria? Posted on Jun 10 2008 10:46

I am not sure what the underground prices and repairs have to do with a restaurant review! Agree that London is expensive and there are bad restaurants there also. My comments below are a true reflection of Il Convivio in my opinion and I think that I along with my wife we represent a large proportion of visitors to Rome. Anyone who decides to ignore my review - it's their choice - I am sure some people will like the place but it will be a minority. Bear in mind the place was almost empty when we went on a Friday night means I am not the only person who feels this way. Posted on Jun 10 2008 09:39

I usually don't write reviews, but that is quite an exception. I totally disagree with the previous review of Alex M. Absolutely nice and pleasnt place with well-prepared Roman food and some gourmet plates. We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday there and it was one of highlights of our journey. Proper service, exceptionally delicious main courses (both lamb and pasta were very good) and desserts were fantastic. It's not a romance sitting at a very small table with a candle and violin playing, it's sounds more as a vulgarity. And the complaint about the prices sounds at least odd from people of the country where the one-way ticket for the underground costs ~6,5 Eur and half of the lines are on constant repair. This is not a rant but a true opinion as many sites have really promoted this restaurant, which screams a PR job now I have been. This restaurant is NOT good value for money at all + the decor is shocking and not romantic (you sit about 2ms from your partner). When I was there three (all english) couples complained about various things (mainly everyone was shocked at the prices - dont expect to pay less than EUR 35 for ANY course). True, the service is good, yet totally over done. We had a seperate wine, food, table and water waiter and they could not do the others job - ridiculous!!! Now, I have been to many of Londons (plus global) top restaurants and this was nothing compared. The basics were not there, we had motion censor lighting in the toilet and no toilet roll/soap, there was electric doors in the toliet yet there is a cheap ladro figure on each table. All in all, without going on too much, do NOT go here - I generally felt like I had been mugged on walking out! Posted on Feb 24 2007 23:49
