Museo Nazionale d’Arte Orientale

Despite its setting in a gloomy palazzo, this collection of oriental art is impressive. It is arranged geographically and roughly chronologically: first come the ancient artefacts from the Near East – pottery, gold, votive offerings – some dating from the third millennium BC, then 11th- to 18th-century painted fans from Tibet, sacred sculptures, and some Chinese pottery from the 15th century. There are even artefacts from the Swat culture in modern Pakistan.
