Vatican Museums

Begun by Pope Julius II in 1503, this immense collection represents the accumulated fancies and obsessions of a long line of strong, often contradictory personalities. One-way routes cater for anything from a dash to the Sistine Chapel to a five-hour plod around the lot. There are also itineraries for wheelchair users. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the museum: you can’t book them, but you can call ahead (06 6988 3860) to check there’s one free.

You are showing the Museum opening times as 8.45 and 10 a.m. on Page 145 of the 2008 Time Out Shortlist. Following the latter time would add ages to your queuing time - in fact the museum currently opens at 8.30 (as per the Vatican website). Get there by 8.15 to avoid the queues Posted on Aug 12 2008 10:46

This info is great. I did want to let you know that in the TimeOut Shortlist Rome 2007 book, on page 148 in a section titled "Monday Monday", it intimates that the Vatican Museums are closed on Mondays. I emailed my hotel - the Daphne - and asked them and they said that the Museums ARE open on Mondays as indicated on this website. Just to let people know that there is mileading info on page 148!
