Raised from the ruins of a 13th-century monastery just outside the city, Certosa di Maggiano (strada di Certosa 82, 0577 288180, www.certosadimaggiano.com, €400-€680) is renowned for its garden and extensive amenities, including tennis courts, swimming pools and even a heliport. The Hotel Santa Caterina (via ES Piccolomini 7, 0577 221105, €115-€175) is a friendly hotel with a pretty garden just outside the city walls. Piccolo Hotel Etruria (via delle Donzelle 3, 0577 288088, www.hoteletruria.com, from €86) is a family hotel offering good-value rooms. Set outside of Siena itself, Hotel Garden (via Custoza 2, 0577 47056, www.gardenhotel.it, €100-€190) is an excellent option for visiting families, with swimming pools and a tennis court available.
