The most important event is the Palio, the bareback horse race between the city’s rival contrade (districts). There are actually two races, on 2 July and 16 August (www.ilpalio.org). Other major events include the Jazz Festival (www.sienajazz.it, late July/early Aug) and the Film Festival (www.sienafilmfestival.it, late Sept/early Oct).
