Hotels

The small triangle between the Capitole and places Wilson and Victor Hugo has plenty of hotels to suit most budgets. The former Grand Hôtel Capoul is now the Holiday Inn Toulouse Centre (13 place Wilson, 0870 400 9093, www.ichotlsgroup.com, €99-€185), with modern bedrooms. Its brasserie, Le Capoul, has been a local rendezvous since the 1920s.

The charming Hôtel des Beaux-Arts (1 place du Pont Neuf, 05 34 45 42 42, www.hoteldesbeauxarts.com, €92-€190) has imaginative rooms and river views. Its sister, Hôtel Garonne (22 déscente de la Halle aux Poissons, 05 34 31 94 80, www.hotelgaronne.com, €150-€259) is Japanese-style chic.

The Grand Hotel Raymond IV (16 rue Raymond IV, 05 61 62 89 41, €70-€145) is in a quiet district five minutes from the place du Capitole, with comfortable rooms in a historic 19th-century building. The Ibis Toulouse Centre (2 rue Claire Pauilhac, 05 61 63 61 63, www.ibishotel.com, €50-€73) is close to the centre and its modern rooms are good value, if a little bland.
