Medieval Albi is the birthplace of artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and there’s a museum of his works in the Palais de la Berbie, by the vast cathedral. To the north-east, the fortified Cathar villages of St-Antonin, Puycelsci, Bruniquel and Penne all huddle atop the spectacular cliffs of the Gorge d’Aveyron.
