The higher end of Turin’s hotel scene has been transformed by the Olympics. The city’s first five-star hotel, the Golden Palace (via dell’Arcivescovado 18, 011 551 2111, www.thi.it, €470-€640), is housed in a vast Fascist-style building just north of the station and offers high-tech luxury in tasteful shades of burnished gold. The multifarious facilities include a big ‘Wellness Club’. Also brand new and centrally-located, Town House 70 (via XX Settembre, 011 1970 0003, www.townhouse.it, €170-€280) has some 50 rooms and suites done out in a restrained classic-meets-modern style. For a cosy, old-fashioned atmosphere and somewhat lower prices, try the Artuà e Solferino (via Broferio 1-3, 011 561 3444, www.hotelsolferino.it, €65-€140), housed on the fourth floor of a grand palazzo, while budget accommodation with fantastic views can be had at Accoglienza della Basilica di Superga (strada della Basilica di Superga 73, 011 898 0083, €25-€30 per person), where spartan yet atmospheric rooms are housed in the convent adjoining Juvarra’s hill-top masterpiece.
