The great Basilica di Superga, arguably architect Filippo Juvarra’s finest work, is set dramatically on the hills east of the city. You can see another impressive example of Juvarra’s work at Stupinigi (south of Turin), where the extraordinary 1729 Palazzina di Caccia (Piazza Principe Amadeo 7, Stupinigi, 011 3581220), favourite hunting lodge of the Savoy kings, is topped by the statue of a deer; it houses a marvellous collection of furniture. The beautiful hills of the Langhe and Monferrato areas are home to fabulous wines and the famous white truffle.
