Nightlife

The thriving club scene of the mid 1990s has gone. Aquarius (Aleja Matije Ljubeka, +13640231, www.aquarius.hr, café 9am-9pm daily), the number one club for electronic music since 1992, still rules but its status is being challenged by the fancier, more exclusive and internationally prestigious Gallery (Matije Ljubeka, +911133221 mobile, 10am-1am Mon-Wed, Sun; 10am-4am Thur-Sat). At weekends, a blanket policy of house and techno seems to dampen out any taste for R&B and hip hop during the week.

In summer, the scene ups sticks and moves to the coast. Most venues cannot run by just DJs or live bands alone. Key live venues, such as KSET (Unska 3, +16129999, www.kset.org, open 8pm-midnight Mon-Fri; 9pm-3am Sat), Močvara (Trnjanski nasip, +16055599, www.mochvara.hr, 8pm-1am Mon-Thur, Sun; 8pm-4am Fri, Sat) and Tvornica (Šubićeva 2, +14655007, www.tvornica-kulture.hr, café 8am-10pm daily. Club 10pm-4am daily) will have at least one night a month set aside for electronic music.
