Grifting is all fun and games until a young boy needs help in this preposterous dramedy, in which funeral-home car thieves and BFFs Ben (Josh Ritter) and Alan (Jake Sandvig) learn to grow up by aiding a neighbor’s neglected son (Chandler Canterbury). Ritter and Sandvig’s wise-ass repartee is insistently cute, and the film’s economic-hardship concerns, Hurricane Katrina references and portrait of manchildren becoming adults are all handled glibly. The real scam was the filmmakers tricking Rebecca Hall (and a cameoing Amanda Seyfried) into participating in this blunt instrument of an indie.
