Tired of the narco-chic life and having to support his dead-end brother, a Parisian drug dealer (Pio Marmaï) decides that moving to Israel will magically solve his problems. First, however, the young man has to make aliyah (the process of Jewish citizens immigrating to the promised land) and do one last score. Director-cowriter Elie Wajeman could have turned this story into a crime thriller or a cross-cultural case study on exploiting one’s Jewish identity. The fact that it commits to none of those routes suggests he’s avoiding the obvious, but there’s no sense of what Wajeman is after here. A character piece should have some sense of a character’s who, what and why, right?
