Canada, our liberal neighbor to the north, is the land of Breakfast with Scot, where child services cajoles two hesitant gay men into looking after an orphaned boy. Eric (Cavanagh), a sports commentator and retired hockey player who’s on the down low at work, doesn’t want his new boa-wearing ward to blow his cover. Life lessons lurk—just be yourself, adults!—as half-pint Scot (Bernett) practices his cheerleader routines. But even as Eric and his lawyer boyfriend, Sam (Shenkman), are chided for being closeted, their relationship is conveyed in anodyne, asexual fashion; the two men barely touch. Laurie Lynd doesn’t squeeze much emotion out of supporting cast members, either: They’re as subdued as Scot is OTT.
