Time Out says

This latest from writer-director Jared Hess is another unsavoury stew of kitsch juvenilia that furthers the rot that set in between his first two films, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ and ‘Nacho Libre’. The film seems to exist solely to lampoon the modern sci-fi literature community – a very easy target. Enter Benjamin (Michael Angarano), a novice author who wants to publish a space epic, ‘Yeast Lords’ – but his first draft is stolen and rehashed by Dr Ronald Chevalier (Jermain Clement, pictured), a terracotta leatherwear-loving sci-fi luminary. Hess likes to throw all sorts of ironic tat on to the screen, and the cluttered production design obscures anything approaching an identifiable character. For every gag that works (like one on the names of sci-fi characters), rest assured something involving snake diarrhoea is close behind.
