Framed as a personal exploration into how genetically modified organisms harm people and our planet, Jeremy Seifert’s debut feature finds him hopping around the globe—his wife and young children in tow—uncovering the ways in which agribusiness giants like Monsanto use their patents to enforce destructive monopolies. The exposé offers some useful information, but its good intentions are undercut by the director’s officious presence and penchant for gimmicky, if modest, Spurlock-style stunts. Why anyone would think that home movies of the director and his kids belong in a social-issues doc is a truly WTF question.
