After a tough mission during World War II, an African-American soldier suffers from hysterical paralysis and gets treated by an army doctor. Though this film tackles racism, the play on which it is based is about anti-Semitism. Given that this film was released only a year after Truman desegregated the military, the change gives it topical impact.
