After a notorious bandit (cowriter-director Jiang) accidentally kills a local governor, an adviser (You) assumes the politician's identity. The criminal forces the fake luminary to take him to the nearest village so that the thief himself can pretend to be the governor. This arrival doesn't sit well with a gangster (Chow), who decides to scare off his new rival by making him think that a notorious bandit (wink, wink) is out to kill him. Don't even try to keep up with the labyrinthine plot and triple-layered identity confusion (dim-witted doppelgngers, a gang impersonating officers impersonating a gang). It's best to just let the silly-to-spectacular set pieces fly by you and---tastes permitting---enjoy the Karo Syrupped ridiculousness on display.
