“For once, can’t you see me as a man and not just a john?” cries Jae-min (Lee Han), a CEO on the DL, to Su-min (Lee Young-hoon), his favorite rent-boy. Billed as “the first true gay film from Korea,” No Regret builds its romance template from the oldest coupling clichés: nuzzling, piggyback rides, walking hand in hand along the beach. The tale of class-clashing lovers plays out predictably until the final act, which appears to have been inspired by Oscar Wilde’s observations that each man kills the thing he loves and nothing succeeds like excess.
