An earnest but amateurish look at a cultlike rehab, Nick Gaglia’s semiautobiographical debut feature means well. Then again, so did his parents when they condemned him and his sister to a sadistic substance-abuse program. Once inside, nothing goes well for Tony (Gallagher) or Sofia (Donohue), who are routinely beaten and brainwashed over a number of years. Nothing goes well for the movie either: The dialogue is inept, the story incoherent, and the only credible performances come from Gaglia’s father and grandmother, who play themselves. If Gaglia’s intent was to make the audience suffer as much as he did, he definitely achieved his goal.Author: Raven Snook
