Muskets and swords are a bit old-fashioned for the director of Resident Evil---for the latest update of Alexandre Dumas's novel, Paul W.S. Anderson has added flying battleships and elaborate diamond heists. (With material as shopworn as this, an anachronizing approach seems as valid as any.) As the swashbuckling D'Artagnan, the Keanu-ish Logan Lerman valiantly resists the urge to surf across the English Channel; meanwhile, Milla Jovovich's Milady de Winter displays acrobatics better suited to zombie hunting. Still, it's hard not to warm to Anderson's brisk, no-nonsense brand of nonsense, and this revamp supplies one tense standoff in a blimp, a fine fencing bout on a narrow rooftop and plenty of pleasingly geometric compositions of Louis XIII's court.
