Lesson Learned from the Movies No. 237: When you enter another person’s consciousness, it will fuck your head up. That’s what happens to Lukas (Marius Jampolskis), an emotionally remote scientist—please excuse the redundancy—working on a mind-exploring project. Intruding into the cerebral interior of a comely comatose subject (Jurga Jutaite), he starts to interact directly with her. But who’s that other presence lurking around? Lithuanian director Kristina Buozyte clearly worships at the altars of Tarkovsky and Cronenberg, and at its best (see the film’s creepy orgy sequence), her ’70s-inflected, sexually explicit sci-fi opus channels them both simultaneously. Yes, it’s derivative to a fault—but a deserved midnight-movie cult following is all but assured.
