This museum has long been undergoing very leisurely restoration. Just two rooms are open to the public. It is housed in the Fondaco dei Turchi, a Venetian-Byzantine building leased to the Turks in the 17th century as a residence and warehouse. The present building is essentially a 19th-century reconstruction of the original. At present, visitors can see the Acquario delle Tegnue, devoted to the aquatic life of the northern Adriatic, and the Sala dei Dinosauri, a state-of-the-art exhibition chronicling the Ligabue expedition to Niger (1973), which unearthed a fossil of the previously unknown Auronosaurus nigeriensis and a giant crocodile.
