Though Al Covo is hidden in an alley behind the riva degli Schiavoni, it's very much on the international gourmet map. Its reputation is based on a dedication to serving the best seafood, including a sashimi of Adriatic fish and crustaceans, and paccheri pasta with pistacchio pesto, mussels and aubergines. The restaurant's decor should make it ideal for a romantic dinner, but in fact it's more for foodies than lovers, and service can be prickly. Chef/owner Cesare Benelli's American wife Diane talks English-speakers through the menu. Desserts are delicious, and there's a two-course taster menu at €44.
