Known by all as 'Krolo' after the writer Miroslav Krleža who lived here, this beautiful old wooden bar near the main square gives a flavour of pre-1991 Zagreb. The bar staff are easy-going, the inviting older clientele religiously scan the day's newspapers and the younger regulars talk with reverential quiet around the circular seating, which satellites the bar. Timeless is the word you're looking for.

A friendly place to visit any time of day, whether it's a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon glass of beer, this is the spirit of Zagreb. It's easy to spend an hour or two here, just watching the people from the nearby open air (xuse my English) market passing by with their groceries and absorbing the ambiance. Chill out, have a cup of your favorite beverage and forget about it all.
