Renovated in 2006, the 207-room, four-star International is more like 4.5 stars. Its minimalist lobby and café-bar are awash in marble and abstract art. It has gold-leaf chandeliers. Its bedrooms are big, wireless and immaculate with sleek, modern, wooden furniture, comfy beds and flat-screen TVs. Just a quick walk east takes you to Lisinski Concert Hall. A ten-minute ride on tram 13 takes you to the main square. The exterior is the only thing that gives away its recycled past: 1970s-style, multi-coloured lines - yellow, orange, green - run down the glass exterior.
