Bornstein is the best wine boutique in Zagreb and potentially in all of Croatia. Vlado, the owner, is encyclopaedic about wines from every region of the country. There are also labels from other countries stuffing the shelves along the weathered brick walls of this cellar a few doors north of the Cathedral. The modest but friendly staff can help with those as well but frankly this seems like a waste of time when Croatia has such an embarrassment of vino riches. No question is pooh-poohed and any of your queries will likely be rewarded with a tasting and professorial discussion about the history of Croatian wines and gastronomy. The shop also stocks truffles, honey and olive oils. Another Bornstein, the original location, can be found just above Britanski trg at Pantovčak 9, 01 48 23 435.
