A short walk from the main square along Ilica is Britanski trg, where diplomats' wives buy their fruit and vegetables during the week. On Sundays, the stalls are cleared and an attractive bric-a-brac and antique market is laid out, with some 100 stallholders trading goods from first thing in the morning. Paintings, jewellery, old currency, badges, glass bottles, posters, crockery, silver, old farming tools, religious icons, all on display on wooden trestle tables - but few bargains. Gone are the days when you could find a gem going for a song. Still, some beautiful unique pieces will be on offer at prices far less than you'd pay at an Islington design shop.
Even if you don't find anything you want it's a convivial place for a potter around and a coffee afterwards - although finding a spot on a busy Sunday morning may prove difficult.
