Melin has long been a cult spot off on Tkalčićeva, slightly scruffier but somehow more characterful than the multitude of mainstream café-bars along the same strip. Despite being smartened up considerably during a winter 2011/2012 refit, the interior still looks invitingly decadent, with low-key lighting, metallic looking walls and plushly upholstered pouffes and benches that look more film-noir than lounge-bar. The air remains thick with drunken chatter and the music (mostly rock) deafening. At weekends teenagers and older alternative types spill onto the barn-like terrace off to the side or the playground in front.
