Nothing quite says summer in Chicago like hanging out at the lake-facing, boat-shaped restaurant and bar at North Avenue Beach, Castaways.
After being closed for all of 2023, the local favorite debuts this Memorial Day weekend as a more modern version of itself, courtesy of a massive $3 million renovation.
First things first: Formerly known as Castaways Bar & Grill, the destination is now called Castaways Beach Club.
Looks-wise, the 22,000-square-foot, two-level space will now feature "revamped dining decks, bar areas, patio space and multiple cabanas available for rent and private events," according to an official press release. Folks will be able to dine-in for lunch and dinner or indulge in bottle service. The new deck will also be where bands and DJs will play for the night.
The press release also notes the presence of the North End Club, an area reserved for patrons who are 21 years and older.
“The lakefront is Chicago’s front yard and Castaways has long been part of that - we are thrilled to deliver a new and refreshed experience this summer,” said owner Anthony Stefani in an official statement. “We can confidently share that Castaways Beach Club will bring an unparalleled summertime experience to our city and we cannot wait to welcome everyone aboard!”
Given the popularity of the destination before it closed last year for renovations, we expect the new-and-improved restaurant to draw a big crowd throughout the summer, especially since it will be open every single day of the week from 11am to 10pm (weather permitting, of course).
We're officially ready for summer.
